The vineyard is on the old flood plains of the Angas River. This seasonally flowing river flows after heavy rains from its catchment area of the Adelaide Hills thru the historical township of Strathalbyn to our Langhorne Creek wine region and out to Lake Alexandrina.

South Australia’s
wine industry will once again come together under one roof for the second
Cellar Door Wine Festival – Adelaide in February. The Cellar Door Wine
Festival gives wine enthusiasts the opportunity to explore 12 iconic wine
regions and enjoy tastings from more than 150 wineries. The 3-day festival (February
24-26) features a series of Master Classes including Tastes of the Barossa, Wine
and Chocolate Tasting, and a Spiegelau Beer Glass Tasting.

The cool climate Griffin Vineyard at Kuitpo, est. in 1997, is owned and operated by the Griffin Family. Kuitpo is located in the Southern Adelaide Hills, 10 kilometres due east of McLaren Vale. The vineyard is located on Tynan Road approximately 3 kilometres from Kuitpo Hall, at the top of a valley, 350 metres above sea level, commanding spectacular views south down the valley while also providing a cooler mesoclimate. The vineyard is located within the Adelaide Hills GI zone.

A low incidence of pests and diseases means ‘Ulithorne’ is managed without any pesticides and only organically registered sulphur and copper sprays to prevent fungal disease. They make their own compost for organic fertiliser and intend to design an under- vine ‘weed slasher’ so full conversion to organics can be achieved. Irrigation is only applied mid summer as a supplement so the vines do not over-stress.

The Penfolds Estate at Magill is just a few minutes drive from the centre of Adelaide and boasts one of the most interesting and and informative tours I have had the pleasure to experience.
